Executive Biography
Mark W Cowie is an accomplished senior operations and safety executive with more than 34 years’ leadership experience across complex, high-hazard oil and gas environments. He has held senior operational, site leadership, regional assurance and HSE leadership roles with bp across the UK North Sea, Azerbaijan, Algeria, Angola, Alaska, Indonesia and Trinidad & Tobago, with responsibility spanning FPSOs, LNG facilities, terminals, pipelines, MODUs, joint ventures and major divestment programmes.
Throughout his career, Mark has been recognised for leading operational turnaround, strengthening operating discipline and improving safety culture in demanding international settings. He has supported the safe start-up of major projects, led operational recovery and assurance programmes, delivered strong process safety performance across mature and new assets, and coached multicultural leadership teams through periods of transition, integration and organisational change.
Mark combines deep frontline operational credibility with senior executive judgement, disciplined risk management and a strong commitment to developing leaders who can deliver safe, reliable and productive operations. MSc-qualified in Occupational Safety and Health, a Chartered Member of IOSH and a Fellow of IIRSM, he now leads Safety & Operations Leadership Ltd, supporting organisations to build capable leadership teams, improve operational resilience and sustain high performance in safety-critical operations.
